BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Commerce, together with three other ministries, will officially launch the “Klai Keb Kiao” or “Near Harvest” system, a data-driven platform designed to proactively manage agricultural prices, which will be implemented during the upcoming rice harvest.
Trade Policy and Strategy Office Director-General Nantapong Chiralerspong said the initiative follows the directive of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun. Its goal is to improve national agricultural management by moving from reactive responses to predictive planning. This approach supports government policies to apply advanced technology throughout the supply chain, ensuring price stability and protecting farmers’ incomes.
The Director-General explained that the system consolidates data on production, cultivation areas, market trends, and pricing from multiple agencies. He emphasized that this project represents a fundamental shift in state administration, not just another digital dashboard. By converting historical data into actionable insights, the government can anticipate market changes and implement targeted measures before issues arise.
The official launch on September 30 will also include a memorandum of understanding signed by the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. This partnership will align data, technology, and expertise, allowing the government to operate efficiently under a unified, data-driven approach to protect Thailand’s agricultural sector. (NNT)
