PATTAYA, Thailand – A 42-year-old Russian tourist was injured and robbed after three men on a motorcycle allegedly attacked him in Soi Thappraya 9, South Pattaya, early on Sept. 14. Pattaya City Police received a report at about 1:20 a.m. that a foreign tourist had been assaulted and robbed in the area. Rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon were dispatched to the scene.
The injured man, identified as Roman Monnov, 42, from Russia, was found at the scene with injuries sustained during the assault. Rescue workers provided first aid before taking him to a nearby hospital for treatment. A 29-year-old bystander, Phanupong, told police that he heard loud noises coming from inside the soi and initially thought a traffic accident had occurred.
When he went to investigate, he saw the Russian tourist being attacked by a Thai man who kicked him in the face. Two other men were waiting nearby on a motorcycle. The attacker then allegedly grabbed the tourist’s bag before all three men fled on the same motorcycle, with two passengers riding behind the driver.
The witness could not recall the motorcycle’s make or model, but said it was an automatic motorcycle. The stolen bag reportedly contained about 1,000 baht in cash, important personal documents and the victim’s credit cards. Police arranged for the injured tourist to receive medical treatment before taking his statement and recording the incident.
Meanwhile, investigators from Pattaya City Police were assigned to examine CCTV footage along routes the suspects may have used to escape. Police are continuing efforts to identify and locate all three suspects and bring them to justice.
