Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi witnesses agreements to improve influencer advertising standards and establish a “Trusted SMEs” system for responsible businesses.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi witnessed the signing of two agreements on September 10 to improve consumer protection, set clearer standards for influencer advertising, and establish a “Trusted SMEs” system. The agreements involve the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), five advertising-sector partner organizations, and the Federation of Thai SMEs.

The first agreement sets guidelines for influencers, content creators, and others involved in commercial communications, requiring accurate information and clear disclosure of commercial relationships. The document covers reviews, livestreams, product links, AI-generated content, and other advertising formats, helping consumers distinguish sponsored material from independent content while encouraging industry self-regulation alongside legal enforcement.

The second agreement between the OCPB and the Federation of Thai SMEs provides for a “Trusted SMEs” system to help consumers identify responsible businesses. This also supports faster, more accessible dispute resolution, along with training, consultation, and practical guidance to help smaller businesses comply with consumer protection laws.

Supamas, who oversees the OCPB, has directed the agency to take a proactive approach to misleading or exaggerated advertising and unfair commercial practices while helping businesses comply with the law. The agreements seek to provide consumers with reliable information and effective channels for resolving disputes while increasing confidence in responsible SMEs. (NNT)
