RAYONG, Thailand – A French national was arrested after being found working as a language teacher without a work permit during an inspection of language schools at a major shopping centre in Rayong. On September 8, Rayong Provincial Employment Office officials carried out inspections at two English-language schools as part of an operation targeting illegal employment by foreign nationals.
At the first school, officials found seven employees, including four Thai nationals and three South Africans. All three foreign workers were found to have valid documents and work permits.
At the second school, officials found five employees, comprising three Thai nationals, one Bangladeshi national and one French national. During the document inspection, the French man was unable to produce a work permit for officials.
Officials charged him with working as a foreign national without a work permit under Thailand’s foreign employment law. The company employing him was also charged with employing a foreign national without a valid work permit. The French national was taken to Muang Rayong Police Station for further legal proceedings.
