BANGKOK, Thailand – Their Majesties the King and Queen attended the Opera Goes to Hollywood concert by New York City Opera at the Thailand Cultural Centre in Bangkok on September 5, 2026. Their Majesties traveled by royal motorcade from Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall at Dusit Palace and arrived at the venue at 7:21 p.m. Upon their arrival, Their Majesties were welcomed by Permanent Secretary for Culture Prasop Riangngoen, Chairman of the 28th Festival Organizing Committee Jaspal Singh Uberoi, and other key officials.
The performance was presented in honor of the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s fourth-cycle birthday anniversary and marked the opening of the 28th Bangkok International Festival of Dance and Music. The concert featured over 20 classical opera selections linked to renowned Hollywood films, as well as other popular operatic works. The program included music from films such as The Godfather, Mission: Impossible, and American Beauty.
The performance featured internationally recognized New York City Opera artists, including singers Marnie Breckenridge, Tatev Baroyan, and Ekaterine Buachidze, violinist Asi Matathias, and cellist Kristina Reiko Cooper. Constantine Orbelian, Executive and Music Director of New York City Opera, conducted the concert. After the performance, Their Majesties graciously instructed Air Vice Marshal Pakdee Sang-chuto, Assistant Private Secretary to His Majesty the King, to present royal flowers to representatives of the artists and the conductor. The concert offered audiences a fresh perspective on opera, highlighting its elegance and power in a distinctly New York style that will be more accessible to the Thai public. (NNT)
