BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has been scheduled to welcome Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to Bangkok on September 2 for the 5th Thailand–Singapore Leaders’ Retreat, the first in 11 years. The two leaders are setting the direction for the next phase of bilateral relations and discussing regional and international developments.
Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek announced the visit today (Sep 1), with talks expected to cover clean energy, rice trade, cross-border payments, tourism, and cooperation against online scams. Anutin and Wong are also expected to endorse a Joint Statement on the Thailand–Singapore Forward-Looking Strategic Partnership, outlining future cooperation and practical benefits for both countries.
The retreat will provide an opportunity to coordinate ahead of Singapore’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2027 and Thailand’s in 2028, including discussions on ASEAN unity and resilience amid changing economic and geopolitical conditions. The two sides will also exchange a memorandum of understanding on social development between their respective ministries responsible for social and family affairs.
The Leaders’ Retreat will be held in Bangkok, followed by the exchange of MOUs and a joint press conference. Anutin will later host a dinner in Wong’s honor at the Santi Maitree Building, Government House, concluding a visit that covered economic ties, social development, and preparations for the two countries’ successive ASEAN chairmanships.
