PATTAYA, Thailand – A Russian tourist was injured and a Thai man seriously hurt after two motorcycles collided near a pedestrian crossing in front of Pattaya City Hall on August 28.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene after one motorcycle stopped at a traffic signal to allow pedestrians to cross the road. A second motorcycle travelling behind it then crashed into the rear of the stationary bike. The impact left two people injured.
A Russian man, believed to be aged between 50 and 60, was travelling as a passenger on one of the motorcycles and sustained injuries in the collision. The Thai rider of the motorcycle that struck the other bike, believed to be aged between 35 and 45, suffered more serious injuries, including severe chest pain. Rescuers provided first aid at the scene before transporting both injured men to Pattaya Bhattatamakun Hospital for further treatment.
The crash happened while pedestrians were using the crossing. A foreign woman who was crossing the road was seen at the scene following the collision. She appeared shaken by what had happened, but there were no reports that she was injured.
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. The incident highlights the need for motorists to slow down and remain alert when approaching pedestrian crossings, particularly when vehicles ahead have stopped to allow people to cross. Traffic returned to normal after the injured were taken to hospital.
