Helicopters deliver royal relief kits and essential supplies to 11 isolated highland villages in Nan after floods and landslides cut road access.

NAN, Thailand – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has deployed helicopters to deliver royal relief kits to 11 highland villages in Nan province that remain isolated due to severe flash floods and landslides. Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchart Chomklin reported that intense rainfall triggered the disaster in Phu Kha subdistrict, Pua district. Landslides cut off all road access to remote mountain communities, including Ban Khun Kun, Ban Pha Wiang, and Ban Nam Khwang, leaving residents without electricity and essential supplies.

In response, the ministry continued airlift operations for a second day on August 22, 2026. Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Director-General Athapol Charoenshunsa represented the ministry in delivering royal relief supplies from His Majesty the King, along with additional government provisions. The Minister noted that His Majesty’s assistance has greatly boosted the morale of affected residents.

The Minister explained that these communities, located within a national reserve forest bordering Doi Phu Kha National Park, have shifted from corn farming to planting perennial trees in recent years to protect the watershed and prevent soil erosion. However, the unprecedented rainfall temporarily overwhelmed these ecological measures. The Minister confirmed that helicopter supply runs will continue to deliver food and survival gear until the floodwaters recede. Once ground routes are safe, the government will begin comprehensive recovery and restoration operations in the area. (NNT)
