Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva praises the government’s swift and coordinated response to flooding in Nan, urging authorities to use the disaster as a lesson for future recovery and emergency preparedness.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has praised ministers for quickly travelling to flood-hit areas of Nan province, saying their coordinated response has helped reassure affected residents and boost morale among those on the ground. Abhisit said Democrat Party members and local networks in northern Thailand had been assisting residents and continuously monitoring the situation. He expressed condolences to those who lost loved ones and to people affected by the flooding, while thanking officials and emergency workers for their efforts.

He also commended government ministers for responding quickly by visiting affected communities, saying their presence helped build confidence among residents and encouraged officials working in difficult conditions. Abhisit said the response had appeared to be relatively well coordinated, and urged authorities to maintain the same level of cooperation as relief operations continue.

He added that the next important step would be recovery and rehabilitation, while warning that other areas could face similar disasters in the future. He said the Nan floods should therefore be studied as a lesson and used to develop practical approaches for responding to natural disasters more effectively in the future. (TNA)
