NAN, Thailand – Culture Minister Sabeeda Thaised has ordered agencies under her ministry to assist residents affected by flooding in Nan province while protecting historic sites, religious properties, and cultural assets threatened by floodwaters. The ministry has established a central coordination center linking the Fine Arts Department, regional offices, the Nan Provincial Cultural Office, and other agencies. Wat Phumin, one of Nan’s prominent historic sites, is under close surveillance, with specialists assessing conditions and documenting water levels and any damage to structures and artworks.
Officials have advised against moving or cleaning historic objects, pumping water from heritage structures, or taking other action without guidance from conservation specialists to avoid further damage. Authorities are also assessing temples, museums, learning centers, and other cultural properties across the province. Sabeeda has directed religious and cultural networks, volunteers, and community organizations to help distribute relief supplies to flood victims. Agencies have been instructed to prioritize public safety as they prepare to restore cultural sites once conditions improve. (NNT)
