Rain clouds gather over Pattaya during another wet day, with frequent showers continuing across the city this week.

PATTAYA, Thailand — Pattaya has been dealing with frequent rain throughout the week, with showers and thunderstorms repeatedly sweeping across the city and disrupting outdoor activities, travel and beach plans. The unsettled weather is linked to the active southwest monsoon affecting Thailand and the Gulf, with the Thai Meteorological Department warning of heavy rain in parts of the country through Friday. The department says the monsoon trough will shift during August 22–26, while the southwest monsoon is expected to moderate.

For Pattaya and the eastern region, conditions are expected to gradually improve from Saturday, August 22, although rain showers will still be possible. The broader forecast indicates a reduction in rainfall intensity over the coming days rather than a complete end to the wet weather. The unsettled conditions have also brought periods of stronger winds and rougher seas. The TMD said waves in the upper Gulf could reach 2–3 meters, with higher waves possible during thunderstorms, urging people at sea to exercise caution.

For residents and visitors, the forecast offers some relief heading into the weekend, with Saturday expected to bring a better chance of breaks between showers. However, Pattaya remains firmly in the rainy season, so sudden afternoon or evening downpours can still develop.

Pattaya residents and visitors can expect some relief from the persistent rain from Saturday, although occasional showers will remain possible.

Heavy rain has slowed traffic across Pattaya, with waterlogged roads creating delays for motorists during repeated downpours this week.

Pattaya’s Soi 6 waits for the rain to ease, with bar workers and visitors taking cover while another downpour sweeps through the city.
