PATTAYA, Thailand — Pattaya officials are stepping up preparations for the 33rd Pattaya Marathon, with more than 20,000 runners, tourists and supporters expected to converge on the city for the September 26-27 event. Deputy Mayor Krisana Boonsawad chaired a preparation meeting on August 19 at the Dusit Thani Pattaya Hotel, bringing together city officials, Banglamung district authorities, Pattaya police, government agencies, private-sector representatives, associations and other organizations involved in the event.
The meeting focused on race routes, security, medical and first-aid services, runner safety and traffic management. The city has divided responsibility for the event area into eight zones to allow officials to monitor conditions, coordinate responses and deal with problems quickly while minimizing disruption to residents and road users. Pattaya City, Chonburi province and the Tourism Authority of Thailand are working to raise the race to international standards. The Pattaya Marathon has received an Athletics Road Race Label and is included in the World Athletics competition calendar, strengthening Pattaya’s position as a sports and tourism destination.
Krisana said the marathon plays an important role in attracting Thai and international runners and tourists, benefiting hotels, restaurants, businesses and the wider tourism sector. At the same time, Pattaya is placing strong emphasis on safety and convenience for residents and visitors, requiring close coordination among all agencies involved. A press conference for the 33rd Pattaya Marathon is scheduled for September 14 at 1:30 p.m., followed by another coordination meeting with relevant agencies to review preparations and improve operational plans ahead of race weekend.
