PHUKET, Thailand — Patong Beach lifeguards rushed to rescue a foreign tourist who ignored repeated warnings and entered the sea despite red flags warning of dangerous surf, August 20.

According to footage released by Patong Surf Life Saving, lifeguards warned the tourist that the sea was experiencing strong waves and advised him not to enter the water. The tourist reportedly insisted that he was a swimmer and proceeded into the sea despite the warnings.

Shortly after entering the water, a large wave struck him, causing him to lose his balance and fall backward before disappearing beneath the waves. Lifeguards immediately responded, riding a jet ski through the rough surf to reach the tourist and bring him back to safety.

Officials stressed that nothing is more powerful or unpredictable than the forces of nature, regardless of a person’s swimming ability or experience. Authorities urged all visitors to respect beach signs, red flags and warnings from lifeguards, particularly when sea conditions are dangerous.

The incident serves as a reminder that strong waves and currents can quickly overwhelm even experienced swimmers. (Story, Photo: Khaosod)
