PATTAYA, Thailand — Pattaya police launched an early-morning traffic checkpoint at the Yensabai Road five-way junction on August 16, targeting traffic violations, illegal weapons and groups suspected of gathering for street racing. A team of patrol and traffic officers established the checkpoint to inspect motorists, check motorcycles and search for illegal items and firearms. The operation focused on preventing dangerous riding, illegal street racing and gatherings that could disturb nearby communities.

Police said the operation was aimed at preventing groups of young people and foreign visitors from gathering to ride motorcycles dangerously or race on public roads, while improving road safety and reducing disturbances in the surrounding community. Officers reported 24 traffic violations during the operation. Five riders were cited for failing to wear motorcycle helmets, 14 for riding without a driving license and another five for motorcycles with incomplete or defective required equipment.

Police said no illegal weapons or other prohibited items were found during the searches and the situation at the checkpoint remained normal. The operation focused on the Yensabai area, which police identified as a location requiring continued monitoring because of concerns over motorcycle gatherings, dangerous riding and noise disturbances.

Police said regular traffic enforcement and checks in risk areas were intended to deter illegal street racing, reduce accidents and improve safety for residents, businesses and tourists. Authorities also urged motorists to follow traffic regulations, wear helmets and ensure their motorcycles are properly equipped and that they hold valid driving licenses. Pattaya police said similar enforcement operations would continue in areas where dangerous driving or motorcycle gatherings could affect public safety and disturb nearby communities.
