BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun has directed the Ministry of Industry to expand government procurement opportunities for Thai-made products, with defense, rail systems, and medical devices identified as three high-value industries for further development. During a visit to the ministry on August 13, Suphajee called for closer coordination across research, manufacturing, marketing, and investment to help domestic businesses reach new markets. Government agencies are expected to generate demand for Thai-made goods, raw materials, components, and services, providing businesses with a pathway to wider private-sector markets while supporting investment, employment, and income.
The ministry will assist businesses through the Good Manufacturing of Thailand for SMEs (GMT SMEs) program under the Department of Industrial Promotion, as well as the Made in Thailand (MiT) certification administered by the Federation of Thai Industries. Support will cover production efficiency, product standards, technology, domestic content, supply-chain connections, and access to major buyers, while MiT certification verifies that qualifying products are manufactured in Thailand. Government purchasing, including Green Procurement, will also be linked with Green Industry, the Bio-Circular-Green Economy model, and Environmental, Social, and Governance principles. (NNT)
