PATTAYA, Thailand – Jasmine flower prices in Pattaya more than doubled for Thailand’s Mother’s Day on August 12, driven by a sharp increase in seasonal demand for the traditional symbol of love and gratitude toward mothers. A survey of fresh flower and garland vendors in Pattaya found that jasmine, widely used for Mother’s Day garlands, had risen from around 300–400 baht per bag during normal periods to approximately 900 baht during the holiday.
Vendors said prices of several fresh flowers increased during the Mother’s Day period, but jasmine saw the most noticeable rise due to its popularity. Ready-made jasmine garlands started at around 30 baht each, while larger or specially made garlands were priced at around 300 baht or more, depending on their size, design and the amount of flowers used.
Despite the higher prices, flower sellers in Pattaya reported steady demand, with residents continuing to buy jasmine and garlands to take home and present to their mothers. August 12 is Thailand’s National Mother’s Day and also marks the birth anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother. Jasmine has traditionally been associated with Mother’s Day in Thailand, representing love, purity and gratitude.
