PATTAYA, Thailand – A Chinese tourist riding a motorcycle without a helmet nearly hit a pedestrian at a Pattaya crosswalk before allegedly trying to flee and crashing into a parked police vehicle, authorities said. The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on August 11 in front of Pattaya City Police Station, where traffic officers were conducting checks and helping tourists safely cross the road.
Police said two Chinese tourists, including the rider and a passenger, were travelling on a black GPX Tuscany motorcycle without helmets through the crosswalk while pedestrians were crossing, narrowly avoiding a collision. Officers stopped the motorcycle to check the rider’s driving licence and warn the pair to exercise greater caution, particularly around pedestrian crossings. During the inspection, the tourists allegedly became agitated and argued with officers before attempting to ride away. The motorcycle then collided with a government vehicle parked nearby, causing damage to both vehicles.
Other tourists in the area reportedly filmed the incident, capturing the motorcycle being stopped before the rider attempted to leave and struck the police vehicle. Officers detained the rider and took him to Pattaya City Police Station for further legal proceedings. Initial charges include riding a motorcycle without a helmet, driving without a licence and causing damage to government property.
