BANGKOK, Thailand – A 20-year-old motorcycle delivery rider has been arrested after allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old schoolgirl who booked him through a popular ride-hailing application, with police uncovering two additional alleged victims during the investigation.
Officers from the Children and Women Protection Division arrested the suspect on August 11 on charges including taking a person aged over 15 but under 18 away for an indecent purpose against her will and rape involving the use of force.
Police said the investigation began after the girl’s mother filed a complaint on August 8. According to the complaint, the teenager had booked the rider to take her to a friend’s home. Instead, police allege that he changed direction and drove her to his residence, where he forcibly took her inside, assaulted her and threatened her before taking her home. Following the complaint, officers considered the case a serious threat to women and children and quickly expanded the investigation. Police subsequently identified two more alleged victims who reportedly experienced similar incidents.
Investigators said the suspect had allegedly been riding around schools and targeting female students. Police said he offered fares below normal rates through the application, attracting young passengers to use his service. Police suspect there may be additional victims and are continuing the investigation in cooperation with investigators at Rat Burana Police Station and other relevant agencies. Authorities urged anyone who may have information or may have been affected to come forward as investigators work to establish the full extent of the alleged offences.
