CHONBURI, Thailand – Authorities are monitoring air quality following a fire at a tire recycling factory in Ban Bueng district, Chonburi province, amid concerns over smoke and possible health risks to nearby communities. The blaze was brought under control at about 9:20 a.m. (Aug 7), but environmental checks will continue until conditions return to normal. Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin instructed the Pollution Control Department (PCD) to assess air quality, coordinate with relevant agencies, and provide regular public updates. Monitoring teams have been deployed in and around the affected area to check pollution levels.
Students in at-risk areas were evacuated at about 8 a.m., while nearby residents were advised to remain indoors, close doors and windows, wear protective masks and limit outdoor activities until air quality improves. Children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with respiratory or heart conditions have been advised to take extra precautions and seek medical attention if symptoms develop.
