NONTHABURI, Thailand – Police have confirmed that the school shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School has ended, with seven people dead, including six teachers and the gunman, while investigators work to determine the motive and how the suspect obtained a family-owned firearm.
National Police spokesperson Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan said on Thursday (August 7) that officers had secured the scene and ended the incident. Authorities are now gathering evidence, investigating the circumstances leading up to the attack, and assisting the injured.
Police confirmed that six teachers were killed, along with the shooter. Fifteen other people were injured, including 13 with minor injuries and two in critical condition, all of whom have been taken to hospitals for treatment.
Lt. Gen. Trairong said investigators have not yet determined the motive and are examining the suspect’s background, behavior before the attack, and other relevant factors. Police have contacted the suspect’s guardians and learned the individual had been living with relatives. The investigation into the motive remains ongoing.
A key focus of the investigation is the firearm used in the attack. Preliminary findings indicate the gun was legally registered to the suspect’s grandfather.
Police are now investigating how the suspect gained access to both the firearm and ammunition, including how the weapon was stored, where the ammunition came from, and whether proper firearm storage procedures were followed.
“At this stage, we know only that the firearm was legally registered to a family member. How the suspect obtained the weapon and ammunition remains under investigation,” Lt. Gen. Trairong said.
The crime scene has been cleared, with all victims removed from the school. National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet has assigned Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Thana Chuwong to oversee operations at the scene, including evidence collection, forensic examinations, and reconstruction of the incident.
The police chief has also directed the Police General Hospital to deploy psychologists and mental health specialists to provide support for teachers, students, and others affected by the tragedy.
Investigators will continue reviewing CCTV footage, interviewing witnesses, and tracing the firearm and ammunition as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
