PATTAYA, Thailand – Two suspects accused in separate brutal murder cases in Huai Yai have been remanded in custody after Pattaya Provincial Court rejected bail requests, citing the seriousness of the charges, high potential penalties, and concerns they could flee. The court’s decision came on August 1 after investigators from Huai Yai Police Station brought suspects in two high-profile cases before judges for their first detention hearing. In the first case, involving the deaths of two Russian siblings, suspects Thanatip “Pong” Kerdthong, 43, and Thongchai Srinil, 39, were taken to Pattaya Provincial Court after police investigations linked them to the disappearance and deaths of the victims.
The Russian siblings had disappeared along with their Honda ADV 150 motorcycle before authorities later discovered evidence connected to the case. Police allege that the victims were killed and their bodies buried. Investigators requested the first 12-day detention period from August 1–12, 2026, while continuing to gather evidence. The suspects face multiple serious charges, including jointly committing premeditated murder, committing the crime to obtain benefits or conceal another offence, nighttime robbery, impersonating police officers while armed, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. After reviewing the request, the court denied temporary release, stating that the suspects were arrested under court-issued warrants, the charges carry severe penalties, and the alleged offences involved serious circumstances. The court also noted that police prosecutors opposed bail and there was a risk of flight.
In a separate case involving the deaths of a three-member family, suspects were also denied bail by Pattaya Provincial Court. The case, registered under file number F.597/2569, involves charges including jointly committing premeditated murder, nighttime robbery, impersonating police officers, and possession of firearms and ammunition without legal permission. The court reached the same conclusion, refusing bail due to the seriousness of the charges, the severity of the alleged offences, and concerns that the suspects could escape if released. Following the court rulings, correctional officers transferred Thanatip “Pong” and Thongchai to Pattaya Remand Prison in accordance with legal procedures. Authorities continue investigating both cases while working to establish the full sequence of events and determine whether additional individuals were involved.
