BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Culture encourages the public and all sectors to recognize the importance of using the Thai language correctly on National Thai Language Day 2026.
In her address marking National Thai Language Day on July 29, 2026, Minister of Culture Sabeeda Thaised stated that the Thai language reflects the country’s longstanding civilization and cultural identity through its spoken and written forms. The language has passed wisdom, knowledge, and ideas from generation to generation. This inherited knowledge has contributed to personal and national development and provided a foundation for valuable literary works that enrich society and cultivate thoughtful understanding.
The Minister noted that foreign-language influences and rapidly evolving technologies have changed how Thai is used, and expressed concern that emphasizing speed and convenience can reduce linguistic precision and cause communication difficulties. The government designated July 29 of each year as National Thai Language Day in recognition of the royal concern shown by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great for the proper use of the Thai language, including correct pronunciation, sentence construction, and careful consideration of existing vocabulary before creating new terms. The Ministry encourages all Thais to uphold His Majesty’s aspirations by using the language correctly, promoting Thai-language learning at all levels, and taking pride in preserving this cultural heritage.
