BANGKOK, Thailand – A 28-year-old Thai woman has been detained at Fukuoka Airport in Japan after customs officials discovered ice (crystal methamphetamine) concealed inside coffee sachets in her luggage. The suspect, identified as Jutatip from Nonthaburi province, traveled to Japan on July 11 with her boyfriend and a friend. The trio runs a personal luggage-sharing and delivery service via a Line group chat. While her companions were released after being questioned from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM on the day of arrival, Jutatip remains in custody.
Her boyfriend, Sarawut, 28, stated that the group accepted a 12-kilogram sealed brown box from a repeat client using the Line profile “ing ing” for a 3,600 baht ($107) fee. Upon their arrival on July 12, Japanese authorities flagged Jutatip’s luggage after detecting stimulants, though it was not initially clear which item contained the substance. It was only on July 22 that the family received official notification from the Thai Consulate confirming that ice had been found inside the coffee sachets.
Following the incident, the client blocked all contact channels. However, the payment transaction was traced to a bank account under the name Ho Thi Mai.
Jutatip’s family has filed a report with the Bang Bua Thong Police Station and submitted village CCTV footage of the package delivery to help identify the sender. The suspect’s mother maintained her daughter’s innocence, pleading with authorities for assistance. She stated that her daughter had never been involved with drugs in her entire life. However, she acknowledged that the family has to accept the situation because they were careless and failed to inspect the contents inside the sealed box before departure. Local authorities and the Thai Royal Consulate-General in Fukuoka are currently monitoring the case. (TNA)
