Anutin Charnvirakul inspects construction of the royal crematorium at Sanam Luang, where work is more than 90% complete ahead of the royal funeral ceremony for Queen Sirikit in December.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Construction of the royal crematorium for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother is over 90% complete, with the funeral ceremony scheduled for mid-December, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said. During an inspection at Sanam Luang, Anutin confirmed that the main structural framework is on track for full completion in October. The design features a three-tiered crown-shaped spire decorated in light blue, pink, and white—colors chosen to match the Queen Mother’s day of birth—along with motifs inspired by her tiara and jewel beetle wings from her Support Foundation.

The Fine Arts Department is installing three elevators for the royal family by August, while the royal sandalwood urn, coffin, and ceremonial sculptures will be completed by October. The department is also working to finalize the traditional design for the crematorium of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha. Separately, Army Chief General Pana Klaewplodtook inspected the restoration of the royal chariots at the National Museum Bangkok. The project, a collaboration between military ordnance, tech institutes, and traditional artists, is highly advanced, with the main Phra Maha Pichai Ratcharot chariot over 99% complete and expected to be finished by late October.
