PATTAYA, Thailand – The Thai government is moving forward with its “Thailand 365 Days” tourism strategy after new data showed the kingdom remains one of the most popular destinations for Asian travelers during the first half of 2026. Government spokeswoman Ratchada Thanadirek said the administration led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is continuing efforts to promote year-round tourism growth by highlighting Thailand’s diverse attractions, including nature, culture, cuisine, and local experiences. According to data from Agoda, Thailand remained a preferred destination among Asian travelers during the first six months of 2026. Popular destinations included Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin and Cha-am.

Meanwhile, nature-based destinations such as Khao Yai, Nakhon Nayok and Kanchanaburi have seen growing interest, reflecting Thailand’s ability to develop new tourism markets and spread tourism income beyond major cities and traditional hotspots. The government plans to build on this momentum by linking tourism with geographical indication (GI) products, community enterprises, local cuisine, cultural traditions, and regional identities. Officials believe the approach will help increase economic value, create jobs, and distribute tourism revenue more evenly across the country. The strategy also focuses on attracting higher-spending visitors, encouraging longer stays, repeat visits, and greater engagement with local communities. Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul has reported to the prime minister that the ministry is prepared to continue developing both natural attractions and emerging destinations while upgrading tourism standards in line with the internationally recognized Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) framework.

Under the Thailand Green Tourism Plan 2030, authorities aim to place more Thai destinations among the world’s Top 100 sustainable tourism destinations while strengthening the country’s reputation as a high-quality global tourism destination. Officials say progress is already being made. Doi Phu Kha National Park recently received a Green Destinations Award 2026, highlighting Thailand’s growing success in meeting international sustainability standards and providing a model for tourism development elsewhere in the country. The government believes the combination of sustainability, cultural identity, and year-round travel opportunities will help maintain Thailand’s position as one of Asia’s leading tourism destinations while delivering broader economic benefits to local communities.
