PATTAYA, Thailand – A foreign resident has voiced frustration over the challenges foreigners face when trying to start a business in Thailand, even when married to a Thai national. Writing to Pattaya Mail, Tarry said that despite being legally married to a Thai citizen, he and his wife found the process of establishing a business to be far more difficult than expected. “Even as a married foreigner, the Thai government still makes it very difficult to open a business,” Tarry wrote. “I try with my wife, but the hurdles are just too big.”

His comments reflect concerns often expressed by some foreign residents who say complex regulations, licensing requirements, and financial thresholds can discourage entrepreneurship and investment. Tarry questioned whether authorities could consider making it easier for married couples, particularly those seeking to operate small businesses, without requiring what he described as “millions of baht in the bank.”

While Thailand continues to promote investment and economic growth, some long-term foreign residents argue that more flexible pathways for family-run businesses could encourage entrepreneurship, create jobs, and contribute to local economies. Tarry concluded his message with a question to fellow readers and business owners: “Can anyone help with that?” His comments are likely to resonate with other foreigners who have explored business opportunities in Thailand and encountered administrative or financial challenges along the way.
