PATTAYA, Thailand – The Election Commission (EC) has announced a temporary ban on the sale and distribution of all alcoholic beverages in Bangkok and Pattaya ahead of the upcoming local elections. The prohibition will be in effect from 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, covering the period before and during voting for the Bangkok Governor and Bangkok Metropolitan Council elections, as well as the Pattaya Mayor and Pattaya City Council elections.
Under election laws, the restriction is intended to maintain public order and ensure a fair voting environment. Restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, convenience stores, supermarkets, and all other businesses are prohibited from selling or serving alcoholic drinks during the designated period. Authorities have warned that violators face penalties of up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both.
Eligible voters in Bangkok and Pattaya are encouraged to participate in the elections on Sunday, June 28. Polling stations will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Officials are urging residents, visitors, and business operators to plan ahead and comply with the alcohol sales ban to avoid legal consequences.
