Minister Suphajee drives Thai soft power push at SACIT

Suphajee Suthumpun visits SACIT in Ayutthaya to review efforts in promoting Thai arts, crafts, and international cultural exhibitions.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun led a ministry delegation to the Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (SACIT) in Bang Sai District, Ayutthaya Province, on June 21, to review ongoing efforts to preserve, develop, and promote Thai arts and crafts. The delegation was welcomed by SACIT Director Assistant Professor Anucha Thirakanont, who outlined the institute’s efforts to preserve and promote Thai craftsmanship. ​The deputy prime minister commended the institute for advancing Thai arts internationally, noting its leadership in organizing the La Mode en Majesté: Royal Thai Dress from Tradition to Modernity exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.



​The exhibition, held from May 13 to November 1, is under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya. According to the deputy prime minister, the exhibition showcases the refinement of Thai textiles, royal dress, and craftsmanship, highlighting the skill of Thai artisans and the significance of Thailand’s cultural heritage internationally. ​The deputy prime minister also praised the Thai Kimono Project, a collaboration with Japanese partners to incorporate Thai textiles into traditional kimonos, and recognized the success of the Crafts Bangkok 2026 event. ​During the visit, the delegation toured exhibitions featuring royal attire, Yan Lipao basketry, and contemporary crafts. ​Suphajee stated that the ministry fully supports the institute’s mission to expand international markets, protect intellectual property, and empower local artisans. The SACIT Director reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to serving as a knowledge hub that integrates traditional wisdom with economic development to ensure sustainable income for Thai communities.
