Laos has become the eighth ASEAN nation to secure FIFA World Cup 2026 broadcast rights, with Unitel set to air all 104 matches free on LaoTV, while Thailand remains in negotiations with FIFA.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Unitel, operating through Star Telecom, has secured the broadcasting rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup from FIFA, according to Lao state media. Under the agreement, all 104 matches of the tournament will be available free of charge on the LaoTV platform, allowing football fans across Laos to watch every game from the opening match to the final.

The deal makes Laos the eighth member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to secure World Cup 2026 broadcasting rights. Other countries that have already reached agreements with FIFA include Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Vietnam and Malaysia. Three ASEAN nations have yet to finalize broadcasting agreements: Thailand, Myanmar and Brunei.

In Thailand, Jasmine International (JAS) is reportedly continuing negotiations with FIFA in an effort to acquire the rights. The company is understood to be seeking a deal close to the reported price paid by Vietnam, estimated at around US$15 million, or approximately 700–800 million baht. The 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico, will feature 48 teams and a record 104 matches.
