
BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has maintained its status as a premier global travel destination, securing top international accolades throughout 2025 and 2026 despite economic fluctuations, geopolitical challenges, and domestic factors. Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports Natthriya Thaweevong stated that Thailand consistently ranks among the top five destinations in numerous international publications and tourism organizations. The recognitions cover natural tourism, sustainability, luxury services, world-class events, and premium travel experiences.
In sustainability, Koh Lanta in Krabi Province received the Green Destinations Story Award 2026 for Nature and Scenery at ITB Berlin in Germany, recognizing its balance of natural conservation and tourism management. Doi Phu Kha National Park in Nan Province and Takua Pa Old Town in Phang Nga Province received Green Destinations Awards 2026 for sustainable development and the preservation of community identity. Additionally, Chiang Khan in Loei Province and Uthai Thani Province were recognized for environmental preservation and community engagement.
In the premium travel segment, Forbes Travel Guide 2025–2026 designated Bangkok as a top global luxury destination. Phuket remains a premier world-class marine tourism hub, and Koh Samui gains traction for wellness and luxury retreats. Furthermore, Chiang Mai was highlighted by international media as a top Asian city for digital nomads due to its digital infrastructure, quality of life, and cultural appeal. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports emphasized that these global accolades reflect a strategic shift toward quality, sustainability, and high-value experiences.
