BANGKOK, Thailand – Walailak University is expanding the international reach of its Professional Culinary Arts (Pro Chef) Program by sending students to Taiwan for hands-on training with Michelin-starred chefs and exposure to global culinary innovation. Associate Professor Dr. Pimlapas Pongsakornrungsilp, Dean of the School of Management at Walailak University, said the university sent 28 students and two faculty members to Hungkuang University for an academic exchange and professional training program from May 17–28.

The program aims to equip students with practical experience in international culinary arts while strengthening their Chinese language skills for careers in the global tourism and hospitality industry. Dr. Pimlapas said Taiwan was selected for its strong reputation in food, tourism, and hospitality, as well as its leadership in culinary innovation. She added that the program is designed not only to develop cooking skills but also to foster creativity and encourage students to apply innovative ideas in menu development and adapt to changing industry trends.

A key component of the program is the opportunity to learn directly from Michelin-starred chefs and train in modern kitchen laboratories equipped with advanced technology. The experience allows students to build on classroom knowledge and apply professional techniques in an international setting. Student representative Chanachai Pusud said the training provided valuable lessons in kitchen management, food presentation, ingredient utilization, and teamwork. Another participant, Nalisa Chotthong, said that learning Chinese culinary techniques from expert chefs and experiencing a fast-paced professional environment gave her clearer direction for her future career development. The exchange program reflects Walailak University’s commitment to developing globally competitive culinary professionals through international learning opportunities. (NNT)
