
BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has entered the world’s top 50 startup ecosystems for the first time in six years, ranking 49th globally in the Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2026 by StartupBlink. According to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and the National Innovation Agency, Thailand ranked 4th in Southeast Asia and recorded a startup ecosystem growth rate of 62.6 percent. The country also ranked as the top MedTech startup ecosystem in Southeast Asia and 8th globally, highlighting its rising capacity in healthcare innovation and the wellness economy.
Bangkok continued to advance as a regional innovation hub, rising to 76th globally and ranking first in Southeast Asia for robotics, placing 17th worldwide in that category. Chiang Mai and Phuket provinces also recorded strong growth, indicating broader expansion of innovation activity beyond the capital and attracting entrepreneurs and digital nomads. Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Minister Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat said the rankings indicate rising confidence in Thailand among investors, entrepreneurs, and global innovation networks, supported by continued development in DeepTech sectors such as MedTech, AI, robotics, climate technology, and food technology. Plans are now being considered to further develop the ecosystem to steer the country toward becoming a fully developed, innovation-driven economy. (NNT)
