
PENANG, Malaysia – Fourth Army Area Deputy Commander Maj Gen Chakrit Ucharatana represented Thailand as chair of the 118th Thailand–Malaysia Regional Border (RBC) Committee held in Penang, Malaysia. The meeting addressed cooperation on security, border management, and development in border areas. The Thai side detailed progress in the southern border provinces, including efforts to improve living conditions, support religious harmony, and promote peaceful coexistence within diverse communities. Updates were also provided on the recovery of tourism in Hat Yai, Songkhla province.
The Malaysian side reported progress on the resumption of ferry services between Kuala Perlis and Tammalang Pier in Satun province, which is expected to support travel and tourism between the two countries following earlier disruptions. Both parties reaffirmed continued cooperation to maintain security while advancing economic and social development in border areas. The discussions support closer coordination and shared ambitions to improve conditions for communities on both sides of the border. (NNT)
