A violent overnight storm flooded several major roads across Pattaya as authorities warned residents to prepare for lingering monsoon weather, sudden downpours, and possible flash flooding in the days ahead.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Torrential rain and strong winds lashed Pattaya at around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, May 14, flooding several major roads and once again exposing the city’s recurring drainage problems as monsoon conditions continue to grip the region. The storm brought intense rainfall, thunder, and strong winds across the city, quickly overwhelming drainage systems in several low-lying areas.

Among the affected locations were Pattaya Third Road near the Moom Aroi intersection, the railway road junction near Wat Tham Samakkee, Khao Talo, and sections of South Pattaya Sukhumvit Road, where floodwater built up rapidly during the downpour. Several roads became temporarily impassable for smaller vehicles, while motorists were forced to slow down or avoid flooded routes altogether as water levels continued rising through the night. Although floodwaters later receded and traffic returned to normal by morning, authorities warned that unstable weather conditions are expected to continue over the coming days as Thailand officially enters the rainy season.

City officials urged residents and business owners to remain alert for sudden storms, localized flooding, and heavy downpours, especially during late-night and early-morning hours when rainfall can intensify quickly. Residents living in flood-prone areas have also been advised to secure belongings, move valuables and electrical equipment to higher ground, monitor weather updates closely, and prepare for possible flash flooding if storms persist. Officials thanked emergency personnel and city workers who remained on overnight duty to monitor flooding, assist motorists, and manage affected areas during the severe weather event.

City workers and emergency crews remained on duty overnight across Pattaya, monitoring flooded roads, assisting motorists, and responding to storm-related disruptions as heavy rain swept through the city.

The flooding comes as Thailand officially enters the rainy season, with monsoon conditions expected to bring more heavy rain, thunderstorms, and localized flooding in the days ahead.
