PATTAYA, Thailand – The Thai government is accelerating plans to transform the country into a world-class aviation training hub as demand for air travel, tourism, and logistics continues to surge across the region.
On May 8, Deputy Transport Minister Phattrapong Phattraprasit delivered six major policy directives to the Civil Aviation Training Center aimed at upgrading Thailand’s aviation workforce and infrastructure to international standards.
The initiative is designed to support Thailand’s ambition of becoming both a regional aviation hub and a global center for aviation education and training.
Key priorities include expanding the Hua Hin flight training center, acquiring new training aircraft and advanced flight simulators, and modernizing aviation laboratories to meet world-class standards. Authorities also plan to strengthen partnerships between government agencies and private companies to improve links between aviation education, internships, and employment opportunities.
The government said Thailand must rapidly produce more pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers, air traffic controllers, aviation safety specialists, and drone operators to meet growing industry demand driven by tourism and logistics expansion.
Officials are also pushing new aviation-era training programs focused on emerging technologies such as seaplanes, drones, electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL), aviation cybersecurity, and digital airport management systems.
The ministry believes the aviation sector will remain a major engine for Thailand’s economy as international tourism rebounds and regional air connectivity expands.
