LAMPANG, Thailand – Authorities in Lampang province are racing to clear a massive accumulation of debris from a major bridge on Friday after violent summer storms triggered flash floods across several districts.

Crews used backhoes to remove uprooted trees and vegetation clogging the Lao Yao Bridge in Serm Ngam district. Officials warned that the blockage could lead to structural failure if water levels rise again, as the debris currently obstructs the natural flow of the Serm River.

The flash flood came and went rapidly, leaving residents little time to prepare,” local officials said, reporting that the surge swept away a pickup truck, several motorcycles, and damaged agricultural land.

The Lampang Provincial Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that the storms, which struck late Thursday, damaged approximately 100 homes across three districts.

While the floods caused significant loss of property and infrastructure, provincial officials confirmed there were no injuries or fatalities.

The Thai Meteorological Department issued a weather advisory effective through May 10, warning of volatile conditions across the country.

Upper Thailand: A high-pressure system from China will bring increased thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rain to the North, Northeast, Central (including Bangkok), and East. This shift is expected to ease the recent heatwave as temperatures drop.

Southern Thailand: Strengthening easterly winds over the Gulf will trigger heavy to very heavy rain across the south.

Authorities have warned of potential flash floods and forest runoffs, advising the public to secure outdoor structures and farmers to protect crops. (TNA)
