PATTAYA, Thailand – A security guard was injured after crashing his motorcycle into a fuel tanker while allegedly looking at his phone, with responders later discovering an air gun inside his bag.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on May 5 along a frontage road parallel to the motorway inbound to Laem Chabang in Surasak, Sri Racha district. Rescue teams from Pure Yiang Tai were alerted to a collision involving a motorcycle and a 22-wheel fuel truck making a turn into a side street.

At the scene, the tanker truck had already turned into the soi when a white-and-maroon Honda Wave motorcycle, without a license plate, slammed into the front left side of the vehicle and fell near its front wheel.

The injured rider, identified as 32-year-old Suttipong Phusinoy, sustained head injuries and multiple abrasions. He was given first aid before being rushed to a nearby hospital.

During the response, rescuers found a black shoulder bag belonging to the injured man. Upon inspection, they noticed an object resembling a weapon inside and alerted police. Officers later confirmed the item was a magazine-style air gun, not a real firearm, and returned it to the owner without pressing charges.

The truck driver, Nimit Somketsarin, said he had signaled well in advance before turning into the soi, and other vehicles had stopped to give way. He stated that the motorcyclist appeared to be looking down at his phone and sped past the stopped vehicles before crashing into the truck.

Police will continue investigating the crash and have documented the scene as evidence, treating the case as a traffic accident.
