The State Railway of Thailand is inviting the public to experience a one-day steam locomotive journey from Bangkok to Chachoengsao on June 3, featuring heritage train travel, sightseeing activities, and special tourism packages in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is set to operate a special steam locomotive excursion from Bangkok to Chachoengsao as part of celebrations marking the birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana on June 3.

The one-day round trip, operating as train numbers 903/904, aims to offer passengers a nostalgic travel experience aboard a historic steam locomotive while encouraging cultural and heritage tourism in eastern Thailand.

The train will depart Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Station at 8:10 a.m. and arrive at Chachoengsao Junction at approximately 9:50 a.m., allowing passengers around six hours of free time to explore the province before the return journey at 4:30 p.m., arriving back in Bangkok at 6:10 p.m.

Additional stops for boarding and disembarking will be available at Makkasan, Khlong Tan, and Hua Mak stations, providing more convenience for passengers along the route.

The highlight of the trip is the use of a historic Pacific-type steam locomotive, numbers 824 and 825, which are preserved post-World War II engines maintained by the Thonburi locomotive depot. These trains are typically operated only on special national occasions.

Upon arrival in Chachoengsao, passengers can design their own itineraries, including visits to well-known religious and cultural landmarks such as Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan, home to the revered Luang Pho Sothon Buddha image, Wat Leng Hok Yi, and the Pun Tao Kong Shrine.

For those interested in lifestyle tourism, popular attractions include the century-old Ban Mai Market, known for its riverside atmosphere, local food, and traditional community culture.

Ticket prices are set at 329 baht for third-class ordinary seats and 799 baht for air-conditioned special coaches, which include onboard refreshments. Tickets will be available for booking from May 4, at 8:30 a.m. via the D-Ticket system or at railway stations nationwide.

In addition, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (Chachoengsao Office) is offering optional one-day tour packages priced between 888 and 999 baht, featuring VIP bus or van transport and curated itineraries. Activities include visits to Jimmy Farm, cultural and spiritual sites such as Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan, and interactive experiences like making traditional offerings and participating in merit-making activities at Wat Saman Rattanaram.

Organizers said seats are limited and encouraged early reservations for those interested in combining heritage rail travel with local tourism experiences.
