Chonnabot silk festival puts Thai Mudmee heritage on display with runway debut in Khon Kaen

Minister of Culture Sabeeda Thaised opened the Chonnabot Mudmee Silk and Local Goods Festival in Khon Kaen, joining a Thai silk fashion show alongside Miss Thailand 2026 contestants to promote local craftsmanship, boost community income, and highlight Chonnabot’s role as a key Mudmee silk production hub.

KHON KAEN, Thailand – Minister of Culture Sabeeda Thaised officially opened the Chonnabot Mudmee Silk and Local Goods Festival in Khon Kaen province and took part in a Thai silk fashion show to promote local knowledge as a catalyst for grassroots economic development.

​On May 2, 2026, the Minister presided over the opening ceremony of the “Mudmee Silk and Local Goods of Chonnabot” festival on the Silk Road in Chonnabot District.

​The festival features exhibitions of Mudmee silk and community products, sales of local goods, and cultural performances. A key highlight was the fashion show, where the Minister walked the runway alongside Miss Thailand 2026 contestants and local community members, boosting tourism and elevating the value of local products.



The event aims to preserve and promote Chonnabot’s traditional Mudmee silk weaving and reinforce its role as a leading silk production center in Khon Kaen. The initiative seeks to create market opportunities and raise income for producers, entrepreneurs, and local residents.

​Chonnabot District has eight sub-districts and 80 villages, with a population of over 46,000, mainly engaged in agriculture and handicrafts. The festival leverages cultural capital, fosters community pride, and supports a sustainable grassroots economy. (NNT)
