PATTAYA, Thailand – A stretch of Sukhumvit Road in Sattahip became a danger zone on the evening of April 29 after a large oil spill caused multiple motorcycle accidents, leaving several riders injured.

Traffic police were alerted to the spill at the Km.1 intersection on the outbound lane toward Pattaya, where oil had spread across a 100-metre section of road. The slick surface quickly led to several motorcyclists losing control and crashing.

Officers rushed to the scene, placing traffic cones to secure the area and coordinating with highway officials and municipal workers to contain the hazard.

Initial inspections suggest the substance was engine oil, though the source remains unknown. Authorities have not yet identified the vehicle responsible, and it is unclear whether the spill resulted from a leak or improper transport.

To prevent further accidents, workers spread sand over the affected area before sweeping it away to reduce slipperiness. The cleanup allowed traffic to resume as normal later in the evening.

Police say efforts are underway to track down the source of the spill, with legal action to follow if negligence is confirmed.

Officials place traffic cones and spread sand over the oil spill as they work urgently to reduce the risk of further accidents.
