TAK, Thailand – Thai infantry units on Friday intercepted a smuggling operation and seized 3,800 liters of contraband fuel intended for Myanmar during a border patrol in Tak province.

Soldiers intercepted four pickup trucks near Mae Ok Hu village in Phop Phra district after noticing suspicious activity along the frontier.

A search of the vehicles uncovered 2,600 liters of diesel and 1,200 liters of gasoline stored in large 200-liter drums and smaller containers.

The suspects and the seized fuel have been handed over to customs officials and Phop Phra police for legal proceedings.

Authorities have ramped up border surveillance in the region to curb illegal exports to neighboring Myanmar amid volatile regional energy prices. (TNA)
