BANGKOK, Thailand – The Kingdom of Thailand is celebrating the 244th anniversary of the founding of Rattanakosin with a series of cultural events aimed at showcasing the country’s heritage and history.
Organized by the Ministry of Culture, the celebration commemorates the establishment of the capital in 1782 by King Buddha Yodfa Chulalok the Great, also known as Rama I. The event honors the legacy of the Chakri dynasty and its role in influencing cultural and national identity.
Activities are being held across several venues in Bangkok. At Chulalongkorn University Centenary Park, visitors can explore cultural markets, multimedia exhibitions, traditional performances such as Khon and Likay, and concerts by Thai artists. The National Museum Bangkok is hosting a night program featuring film screenings and traditional performances, while Wat Prayurawongsawas offers a cultural walk with food events and craft markets.
Organizers are encouraging attendees to wear traditional attire, and admission is free. The celebration also includes educational materials, such as a commemorative comic book, to promote awareness of Thailand’s royal history and cultural heritage. (NNT)
