KRABI, Thailand – An elderly couple died after their SUV crashed into a high-voltage power pole in Krabi while traveling from Phuket to a hospital appointment in Hat Yai.
Police in Khlong Thom district were alerted to the crash at around 9 a.m. on April 22 near Khlong Thom Rat Rangsan School. Rescue workers arrived to find a green-plate Toyota Fortuner that had veered off the road and slammed into a roadside high-voltage power pole, snapping it into two sections.
Inside the vehicle, rescuers found a 79-year-old man with serious injuries and a 69-year-old woman unconscious. Emergency teams worked to free both victims from the wreckage before rushing them to Khlong Thom Hospital.
Doctors and nurses attempted to save their lives, but both later died from their injuries.
Investigators said the man and woman were husband and wife and had been traveling to Hat Yai for a medical appointment when the crash occurred.
Authorities are now trying to contact relatives so the bodies can be collected for religious rites.
