PATTAYA, Thailand – Department of Highways Thailand — Thailand’s Department of Highways is offering free motorway travel on five major routes during the Songkran holiday, starting April 10, in a move aimed at easing nationwide travel.
Under the “Smart Travel Songkran 2026” campaign, toll fees will be waived for seven days on three key motorways — M7, M9, and M81 — from 00:01 on April 10 until midnight on April 16.
The routes include:
- M7: Bangkok – Chonburi – Pattaya – Map Ta Phut
- M9: Outer Ring Road (Kanchanaphisek Road), covering Bang Pa-in to Bang Phli and Phra Pradaeng to Bang Khun Thian
- M81: Bang Yai – Kanchanaburi
In addition, two newer motorways — M6 and M82 — will open for free trial use.
The M6 (Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima, 196 km) will operate with directional flow management:
- Outbound from Bangkok: April 10–13
- Inbound to Bangkok: April 14–19
The Pak Chong–Nakhon Ratchasima section will remain open both directions throughout
Meanwhile, the M82 (Bang Khun Thian to Ekachai, 10 km) will also be accessible free of charge.
In total, more than 530 kilometers of motorway will be available nationwide at no cost, helping to reduce congestion, cut travel times, and lower fuel consumption during one of Thailand’s busiest travel periods.
Officials are urging motorists to check vehicle conditions and plan trips in advance. Travelers can call the Department of Highways hotline 1586 (press 7) for 24-hour assistance or monitor traffic via the M-Traffic app.
