PATTAYA, Thailand – Two bar owners were injured after a roadside attack in Pattaya, where a man allegedly threw stones at passing motorcyclists, police said.
The incident occurred at around 10:50 p.m. on April 2 along Khao Phra Tamnak Road, near a bend close to the Pattaya Tourist Police station. Officers from Pattaya City Police and rescue volunteers responded to reports of injuries at the scene.
Authorities found two victims—both beer bar owners—who had been struck by rocks while riding a motorcycle. A 49-year-old man suffered facial injuries and bruising, while a 39-year-old woman sustained a cut to the face and swelling. Both received first aid from rescue workers before seeking further treatment.
Police were able to detain the suspect at the scene, identified as a 29-year-old man described as a transient individual. Witnesses said he had been standing roadside holding stones and appeared to throw them at multiple passing vehicles.
The suspect reportedly claimed he acted out of stress related to financial problems. He was described as distressed and apologetic at the time of arrest.
According to the victims, the man threw a rock directly at them as they passed, forcing them to stop. When confronted, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee and threw another stone, escalating the situation.
A witness who was driving behind the victims said the suspect appeared to target passing motorists at random, prompting intervention before police arrived.
The suspect has been taken into custody and will face legal proceedings.
The incident has raised renewed concerns over unpredictable street-level risks in Pattaya at night, particularly along less monitored road stretches where vulnerable individuals and passing motorists may come into sudden conflict.
