PATTAYA, Thailand – The Ministry of Public Health has intensified measures to protect vulnerable groups as PM2.5 pollution reaches hazardous levels in several regions, with northern provinces among the hardest hit.
Public Health Minister Pattana Promphat said air pollution has exceeded safety standards in multiple areas, affecting more than 1.6 million people in high-risk groups, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions. Some locations have recorded extremely high particulate levels, raising concerns over health impacts.
In response, authorities have expanded protective measures, including distributing dust protection nets and setting up clean air rooms in homes, healthcare facilities, schools, and care centers. Public health teams and village health volunteers are also conducting home visits, health screenings, and distributing masks to reduce exposure.
Emergency response centers have been activated at the provincial level to monitor conditions and coordinate assistance, while the public is advised to limit outdoor activities, wear proper protective masks, and seek medical attention if symptoms develop as pollution levels remain high.
