TAK, Thailand – Tensions have escalated sharply along the Thai-Myanmar border following intense combat between the Myanmar military and resistance forces.

The fighting has resulted in heavy weaponry fire crossing into Thai territory, leaving several civilians wounded, including children.

The conflict intensified between March 30 and March 31, as Myanmar government troops deployed multiple companies equipped with heavy artillery to assault resistance positions in Myawaddy Township. The skirmish occurred just 1 to 3 kilometers from the Thai border, opposite Mae Kon Ken village in Mae Sot District, Tak Province.

According to local reports and surveillance footage, two mortar shells landed directly in the center of Mae Kon Ken village, damaging six homes. Six people were injured by shrapnel, including five Myanmar people and one Thai national. Among the victims are three children who are currently in critical condition and have been rushed to Mae Sot Hospital for emergency treatment.

The Ratchamanu Special Task Force of the Thai Army responded by firing smoke grenades as a warning to the warring parties across the border.

Thai troops have since been deployed to secure the border perimeter in Mae Sot to protect local residents as the sound of heavy gunfire continues to echo across the frontier.

Under the current volatility, villagers have been forced to seek immediate shelter to avoid stray bullets and explosives. (TNA)
