PATTAYA, Thailand – Energy Minister Auttapol Rerkpiboon provided an update on the national fuel situation during the “Meet the Press” forum on March 28, 2026, reporting a significant increase in fuel availability at service stations. He confirmed that Thailand’s oil reserves are sufficient for 107 days, ensuring an adequate supply for the Songkran festival.
The Minister explained that reserves include refined petroleum, legal reserves, commercial stocks, and crude oil. He stated that oil tanker deliveries are secured through May, with 24 million barrels arriving in April and more shipments confirmed for May.
To support public travel, the government has increased fuel distribution to about 7 million liters per day. Operators have been instructed to raise stock levels and deploy standby fuel trucks at high-demand stations. Designated refueling points have been established for public transport routes in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Transport.
Additional refined fuel imports have been arranged. PTT Oil and Retail Business (OR) will increase diesel imports to 14 million liters during Songkran, and Shell, OR, and Bangchak will also increase gasoline imports.
The public can monitor fuel availability using the Fuel-Now application, which covers over 10,000 service stations nationwide.
The Minister also noted a significant improvement in station operations. While nearly 2,082 gas stations faced shortages at the peak of the crisis, this number has dropped to about 300 nationwide. The government remains confident that commuters will have convenient access to fuel throughout the Songkran holidays. (NNT)
