The U.S. Embassy in Thailand announces via social media that immigrant visa issuance has been suspended for nationals of 75 countries, including Thailand, while allowing applications and interviews to continue under existing procedures with limited exemptions.

PATTAYA, Thailand – The U.S. Embassy in Thailand has clarified on social media that immigrant visa issuances are indefinitely suspended for nationals of 75 countries, including Thailand.

This action follows a U.S. Department of State announcement, effective January 21, which reinforces an earlier directive. The suspension was reportedly implemented due to high public welfare usage by citizens from these countries, resulting in a significant financial burden for U.S. taxpayers.

Applicants from the affected countries may continue to submit petitions and attend scheduled interviews. However, no visas will be issued during the suspension period.

Exemptions include dual nationals with a valid passport from a country not on the restricted list. Children being legally adopted by American families also remain eligible for visa issuance. (NNT)
