BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Labour has ordered urgent measures to protect Thai workers in Israel following the death of a Thai national in a recent attack, while authorities move to assist the victim’s family and process compensation.
Labour Minister Treenuch Thienthong said the victim, a resident of Chaiyaphum province, died from a shrapnel explosion near his workplace. She instructed the labor attaché in Israel to ensure Thai workers remain in designated safe areas and comply with official safety guidance, while the labor office at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv coordinates assistance and repatriation.
The ministry has also directed local labor officials in Chaiyaphum to visit the family, provide support, and facilitate documentation required to return the body to Thailand. The worker had been employed in the agricultural sector after registering through the Department of Employment, with Israeli authorities expected to complete an autopsy before repatriation within several days.
Permanent Secretary for Labour Pol Lt Col Wannapong Kotcharak said the worker’s heirs are entitled to financial assistance from Thailand’s overseas employment fund, social security benefits, and support under Israeli law. These include compensation payments, funeral cost coverage, and ongoing assistance, with final amounts subject to official assessment. (NNT)
